Open Checker Mobius

This pattern is very simple and can be customized very easily. For a more open, airy feeling use a more delicate yarn, like mohair; however this project looks great in a worsted or bulky weight yarn as well.

Beginning: ch 36

Row 1: Skip 3ch, 1dc into each of next 2 ch, *3ch, skip 3ch**, 1dc in each of next 3ch; rep from * to last ch ending at **, 1dc in last st, turn.

Row2: 3ch, 2 dc in first ch sp, *3ch, 3 dc in next 3ch sp; rep from * to end, 3ch, 1 dc in top of turn ch from Row 1.

Repeat Row 2 until mobius reaches desired length then use slip stitches to attach the ends together to form a continu-ous scarf.

Cupcake Scarf

I made this awesome hat for my little sister and decided that it needed a scarf. I really love the wattle stitch and I had been dying to find a project to try it out on and this was the one. I love the way it turned out and couldn’t be happier to share the pattern here:

Supplies & Tools: 1 skein Multicolored Yarn (color A), 1 skein Solid Color Yarn (color B) - any worsted weight yarn will do. Hook- size G

Beginning: use color A- Ch 9

Row 1: Skip 2 ch, (couns as 1 sc), *work [1 sc, 1 ch, 1dc] into next ch, skip 2 ch; rep from * ending 1 sc into last ch, turn

Row 2: 1ch, (counts as 1 sc), skip 1st sc and next dc, *work [1 sc, 1ch, 1dc] into next ch sp, skip 1 sc, next dc; rep from * ending with [1 sc, 1 ch, 1dc] into last ch sp, skip next sc, 1 sc into top of turn ch, turn

Repeat Row 2 until scarf measures 30 inches.

Cuff: use color B and work on both ends of scarf

Row 1: Work 13 dc evenly across scarf edge, ch 2; turn (ch 2 counts as dc)

Row 2: *Work fpdc in next st, work bpdc in nect st; rep from * to end of row; ch 2, turn

Row 3+: Repeat Row 2- 5 more times or until cuff measures 2.5 inches

Border/Edging: use color B

Work evenly spaced reverse sc around whole scarf

Ruffle: use color A and work on both ends of scarf and front and back of scarf

Row 1: Work 12 st in between stitches, ch 3, turn

Row 2: Work 4 dc and 1 sc into same st as ch, sc into next st, *5dc and 1 sc into next st, sc next st; rep from * to end, fasten off

Repeat Rows 1-2 on last 3 remaining sides.

I was inspired to make this scarf to match these cupcake hat patterns that I discovered on Ravelry.com. I used the two patterns to create this hat:

Sparkly Infinity Scarf

Today I got new yarn and decided on working on a pattern that I’ve had my eye on for some time. The pattern comes from the May/June 2011 Crochet Today! Magazing, pages 40-41: Infinity Scarf. I chose a yarn that is a fingering weight and is sparkly- Vanna’s Glamour in Sapphire! So far the stitches are fun and each row is different which keeps me on my toes. There is nothing worse than starting something and getting bored after the second row, so far so good on that one. Here’s a picture of my progress so far…

Uninspired

9/9/11
The last few days have been a bust for crocheting. I’ve started several projects, but I’ve shelved them or ripped them out. Sometimes when I am not feeling inspired it’s helpful to take a trip to the yarn store and find some great new colors or textures. There are other times when I just have to force myself to finish all those half hearted projects. Its funny how sometimes the projects that sit on the shelf for while can renew my interest again. We’ll just have to wait and see. In the mean time… I plan on hunting for new patterns and building up my yarn stash.

The Basic Beanie

What I love the most about finishing a project is searching for a new one!  I love going through patterns and looking at the yarn stash. I hem and haw and sometimes it will take me hours to find just the right thing.  Some days I'll start 2 or 3 projects before I tear them all out to find something else.  Whenever I just can't seem to find the right thing I always fall back on the oldie but goodie... the beanie.  This is the pattern I usually follow for the typical beanie:

Beginning- Ch 3, 12 dc into 3rd ch from hook, sl to beginning

Row 1- 2 dc in each around (24 total)
Row 2- *1 dc, 2 dc into next st* Repeat around (36 total)
Row 3- *1 dc in next two st, 2 dc* Repeat around (48 total)

I continue this pattern of increases until the hat is the desired size (fits the crown of the head).

End- Dc around until the hat is the desired length, sl to finish off, Embellish!

Kay's World of Crochet?

For the last 9 months I’ve been crocheting almost every day. At first I was doing very basic stitches on hats and scarves, but I soon expanded to slippers and purses and more advanced stitches. I am now a subcriber of several crochet magaiznes (Crochet Today!and Interweave Crochet). I also joined Ravelry.comand I love it.

I’ve been commissioned by co-workers and family memebers to crochet certain items for them and I am feeling much more confident in my abilities.

I’ve even tried my hand at designing a pattern. It was much more difficult than I anticipated and I now understand how some patterns resemble a foreign language. You can check out my pattern HERE if you’re interested.

Summer Breeze

I look forward to writing more about my journey through the wonderful world of crochet and sharing it all with you.

Thanks for reading,
